Deceased Name: SALLEE DAVIS KANTER Sallee Davis Kanter, longtime resident of Duluth passed
away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 while at Heritage Manor. She was born July 4, 1912 in Duluth to Joseph and Sarah
(Baylee) Davis. Sallee was a 1931 graduate of Duluth Central High School.
While in high school she started the Salleee D. Kanter School of Dance in
Duluth and later in Oneonta, Ala. During World War II, Sallee and her family
moved back to Duluth and she worked in her brother's furniture store,
Arrowhead Furniture, as the manager and interior decorator for many years. She was a long time member of Temple Israel, formerly
Tifereth Israel. Sallee also served as caregiver to her mother and brothers.
In her later years she and her brother, Ernest did a lot of ballroom dancing
in and around the Duluth area. Sallee was preceded in death by her parents; three
brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her son, Bill Kanter of Palm Springs,
Calif., and Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandsons, Rabbi Gregory J. Kanter of
Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Brian S. Kanter of Redwood City, Calif.; two
great-grandchildren, Elijah and Alyana; her sister, Peggy Lavick of Cloquet;
special nephew, Joe Garson of Duluth; and her niece, Louise Hodor of Va.;
longtime caregiver, Annette Peterson; and many other nieces and nephews. VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in
Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home, Rabbi Amy Bernstein officiating. Burial at Tifereth
